Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Worked with the student on volume of a sphere and hemisphere. She was able to apply the formulas to find the volume of each and also continued practice finding the volume of composite shapes using cones and cylinders. She worked hard and was able to complete her assignment this evening. She did a great job."
"We continued to cover factoring and simplification, but we also moved onto adding/subtracting algebraic fractions in addition to multiplication/division. The student seemed to have no problem getting started on problems - he just needs to get comfortable in cleaning up the mathematical expressions to come to the final, simplified answer. There was notable progress, in terms of confidence and comfort with the material."
"This was our first session . The student has a quiz this Thursday. We reviewed Chi Squared techniques. She understands the basics and had questions about WHEN to use Goodness of Fit, Homogeneity and Independence tests and HOW to determine the expected values. She just needed some help with the expected values."
"We discussed assignment on solving systems of inequalities and linear programming. The student is able to work through solving systems of inequalities, but has a bit of trouble converting the linear programming word problems into the needed inequalities. We will continue working on linear programming next session."
"The student and I worked on practicing multiplying numbers by powers of ten. He improved significantly from yesterday, showing an understanding of the concept. He misplaced commas yesterday by placing them in thirds starting from the left. Today, he fixed his mistakes and placed the commas correctly starting from the right after solving the problems. We also practiced writing numbers to the thousandth decimal place in word form."
"Today the student and I covered inequalities and graphed them on number lines. After a few problems, she began to gain confidence. Occasionally she would make small errors, most of which pertained to absolute value expressions within the inequalities. I explained to her that she needs to follow a procedure when solving these problems and simultaneously reason why she is following certain steps. This should help reduce her errors and should make her more confident in solving these problems."
