"Today was a great day for the student! He not only met his goal of 11 stars (earning 12 total), but finished his math and even started on some grammar. He struggled a little bit on one problem that asked why he couldn't write 976 as 907006. He seemed to understand that they were different numbers, but couldn't find the words to say it without some prompting. He also had a little difficulty with time until I reminded him that he could count by fives. Overall, he was focused, on task, and on point with his responses. He set a goal for 13 stars next week with the added goal of finishing his math work again."
"The student hasn't started her new chapter of study yet, so her homework for today was more test work. We did that for about 40 minutes, reviewing multiplications of fractions, ordering fractions with unlike denominators, and placing complex numbers on number lines. After this, we decided to get a head start on her homework for Wednesday which was basically a review of the material that she will cover in chapter 6. For the most part, this material was no problem, but she is starting to try to rush through problems again and thus making careless mistakes, so I forced her to recopy the problem, before starting, and write out each step completely, instead of taking shortcuts. We finished this in about 40 minutes as well, so I spent the rest of the time introducing the lesson, that she will learn in class on Friday (the interior angle theorem)."
"The student did really well today. We went over functions, finding x and y intercepts, slope, graphing, and really basic kinematics equations. We also discussed the importance of units and a bit of dimensional analysis."
"Tonight we continued with introductory calculus concepts evaluating the area under curves. We started working through evaluating using estimations with rectangles and then moved quickly to applying the fundamental theorem of calculus. She was able to work through the problems easily as she was taught how to take antiderivatives of polynomials and then just plugged in the values. We will meet again next week to continue reviewing and to start preparing for her finals."
"We worked on a review of the student's homework. We talked about functions and compositions of functions. We'd worked on these a little before, but spent more time on them today. We also worked on exponents and logarithms. The student is getting better at remembering her exponent rules. Finally, we graphed a pair of inequalities as review and talked about some statistics."
"The student and I met tonight for a quick study session before his test on chapter 11 tomorrow. He informed me he had only missed 1/2 of a point on each of the quizzes from this chapter - which was reflected in his confidence with the material. We spent some time talking about test taking strategies and time management skills. We will meet again Saturday."
