Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed some more material for her upcoming final and worked on practice questions to refine her approach and strategy."
"The student and I used this session to review the information for his final, and were able to briefly talk about certain strategies to use during tests."
"Today the student wanted help reviewing for his debate in Language Arts. The teacher gave a lot of well explained information and he appeared to have understood it all, but didn't exactly understand how it all worked together and what his tasks were. We went through the debate structure and I explained what he was to be doing at each stage, as the negative side of the debate. I added a column to the structure to write this down. When we were done with this, he had a better understanding of the directions given by his teacher and how the tasks he has been completing to this point were helping him to prepare. We then discussed his possible three main topics from the five he had already brainstormed. We selected the three best and developed some explanation. He will need to go through his existing research and possible do more to support these arguments. We then went through the possible arguments of his opponent. He discovered his opponent will not be "wrong" and that it will be the student's task in rebuttal to attempt to redirect the argument rather than disprove it. He was left with the notes on his major topics and directions on what he needs to research, what he needs to write up, and what he needs to have additional notes for. He feels more prepared and with a better understanding. He was instructed to practice speaking for two reasons (1) to be used to saying the words and (2) to practice the timing. NEXT SESSION: Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 12:30 Dominic is to bring as much information for his US History class as possible, as outlined in 1/24 email to his mom and discussed with Dominic at this session."
