Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We practiced the present perfect and reviewed the irregulars in particular. After warming up a bit, the student began to answer questions correctly and seemed to remember our mnemonic devices and other tricks with ease. We used one strategy: REVV MAC PHD DID to help with the irregulars and practiced brain dumps, which is a strategy that she is encouraged to use on her quiz. I coached her in effective note taking and we did many drills to reinforce the information. She has a positive attitude and says that the session really helped. I am happy to help! She is a wonderful student."
"We went over what her next lesson will be on - if/then clauses, past subjunctive and conditional. We did some practice with these, went over conjugations and irregulars in both tenses and made up our own sentences. We talked about when we use conditional and past subjunctive, and when we use them together. She seemed to understand it really well."
"The student prepared for an in class composition he has on Tuesday. The professor had provided him with three possible prompts and requirements for each essay, which had to be 150 words and include uses of the preterit and imperfect tenses. We used the prompts to outline each of the essay prompts in detail. We made sure that he was able to correctly conjugate each of the verbs he planned on using in the essay in the preterit and imperfect. We also discussed when it was correct to use one or the other in referring to the past. I gave him guidelines and questions to ask himself when in doubt on which tense to use. He felt confident in the grammar involved. We also focused some time on using vocabulary and facts from his text book that he could incorporate into the essay. He finished with three full outlines with correctly conjugated verbs, vocabulary, and supporting facts for his essays."
