Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed for his upcoming final. The final covered the beginning of the Jackson Administration right up the beginning of The Gilded Age, the end of Reconstruction. He did have some trouble remembering things from Unit 5, as it was the furthest back we had to cover. After a bit of refreshing and connecting to other units he did know, he was able to come up with answers quickly. I was especially happy that he was able to recall so much from the units I started working with him on, as he remembered a great amount of detail and really affirmed that I'm taking the right approach. We made use of his class notes and the flashcards with vocab and concepts that we made, plus his trigger words and mental images we made to remind him of certain figures or key ideas, like a mnemonic device."
"Today, the student and I worked on one of his first ID sets of the semester. Picking up after the Civil War, he's starting the semester with Reconstruction. We also discussed his final from last semester; the student did well and felt like he benefited from our sessions. We discussed essays and how to organize timed essay tests and strategies for prewriting. He is a great student with insightful observations, but he does need to work on delving deeper and finishing in time. We will to continue to work on that this semester."
"Today, we conducted our final review of Chapters 18-19 of the text in anticipation of the student's test tomorrow. We reviewed specifics of the material through multiple choice questions and answers. The student had a sound understanding of the material and had only a few points that caused confusion for her."
