Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I reviewed expressions such as in spite of, in addition to, instead of, and other conversational terms. He is working on incorporating new vocabulary and expressions into his daily conversations. We decided that we will review the vocabulary chapters together before beginning the more thorough grammar chapters."
"I worked with the student for an hour on a review for his Spanish III final. Another student was also there for some of the time. I had to rely heavily on a set of notes they had from class, and I acted as coach."
"We went through the pluscuam perfecto and presente perfecto. We still speak primarily in English and the student does a lot of translating, but since her goal seems to be more about the grade and less about the facility with the language, this seems okay for now. She generally understands the concepts well once we go through them together."
"In our last session, we reviewed for the student's final exam in Spanish. To prepare for this, we reviewed conjugating present, preterite, imperfect, the four subjunctive tenses, future, and conditional. We went over techniques for identifying how to choose the correct conjugation in a sentence and how to decide if you should use indicative or subjunctive. He should be ready to go for the test!"
"We reviewed the present perfect and the past perfect, especially going over the irregular past participles. We used the student's vocabulary on volunteering/political activism to make sentences that he could translate to Spanish. The student said this was the style his tests would be on. The student also said he was scoring in the A grade range in both his Spanish and English class, so I was happy to hear that."
"We learned how to maintain basic introductions and conversations, and then began working on regular verb conjugations!"
