Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over limits again today. This time in more depth. We discussed limits, continuity, left and right handed limits, differentiability, and L'Hopital's rule. All of which the student demonstrated a decent understanding of, but will have to practice to make sure the knowledge is solidified."
"Today's session was mainly a review for the university's placement exam that will allow the student entrance into Calc 1 for the fall. Topics reviewed included order of operations, expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions, and various topics from pre-calculus. Her retention was fairly comprehensive (the practice exam we worked, she answered 58 out of 59 questions correctly)."
"First, the student and I discussed the latest quiz on which he was confident that he did well. We then talked about the newest material, graphing polynomial functions. The major problem with this subject is that finishing one problem can take up to 30 minutes. So we did a couple graphing problems, and I think he understands the majority of the material. On Monday we will discuss graphing polynomial functions further, as well as studying for the second exam on Tuesday."
"The student and I worked on more of a calculus preview for his upcoming semester. We did several complicated graphing problems involving the use of first and second derivatives, and we found local minima and maxima."
"Topics covered included a rehash of integrals and using substitution methods. We also learned how to find the area between two curves. Next we did an introduction to volumes and washers. He is doing better!"
"We continued to work related rate problems and worked some real world physics problems. Next time we will review his physics diagnostic test."
