"Today, the student and I worked on review of Mendelian genetics (heterozygous, homozygous, Punnett squares). We also worked on transcription (leading strand, lagging strand, RNA polymerase, helicase, ligase, etc.). For geometry, we took a dive into solid shapes (surface area and volume of cubes and cylinders)."
"The student worked on homework that covered polynomials, radical and complex roots, conjugates of radical and complex roots, solving for the minimum or maximum of a function using a graphing utility calculator, synthetic division, and volume maximization."
"The student and I had a great first lesson. We spent the first hour working on logarithms. He had missed the day they learned the concept. We reviewed the basics of logs (what they are, why you would use one) and then the rules regarding splitting logs and moving exponents. We worked through a number of his practice problems until he felt comfortable with the concepts and could describe the workflow. Once he felt comfortable with logs, we moved on to ellipses, which was what the class was working on this week. We worked specifically on completing the square to get an equation in standard form. He has a quiz Wednesday on logs then his final exam on the following Tuesday, so we are planning to meet next week to review for the exam. All in all, he is a very bright and motivated student."
"Since the student is finished with the geometry end of course exam, we are working on algebra 2 material to reinforce her algebra skills for next year. Today we covered patterns, expression, both figuratively and graphically, linear inequalities in two variables, sets of real numbers, and evaluating expressions. She continues to improve and her attitude is very respectful."
"The student and I reviewed her work on the Star Wars worksheet, which she completed very well. She's improving at documenting her work to be clearly read later on. We did unit conversions with speeds (related to the last part of the worksheet), and then some practice with equation solving."
"Today, the student and I worked on solving rational equations, finding the extraneous roots of a quadratic equation, using the quadratic formula to find roots of a quadratic polynomial, factoring a quadratic polynomial, finding the equation of circle, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola, finding focus and directrix of conics, finding asymptotes of a hyperbola."
