"The student and I looked at problems involving volumes of solids of revolution. We discussed the shell method and the washer and disc method. She seemed to really understand the explanations and showed comfort with the material."
"The student has a packet of worksheets to learn about the property of logarithms. He was required to simplify logarithmic expressions, employ rules of logarithms, use the change of base formula, and graph logarithmic equations. He was able to predict how the graph would move based on changes the basic parent equation. We also looked at the next topics. He is quite impressive in the way he enjoys using what he knows to figure out what is next."
"Learned how to complete the square and use it to solve quadratic equations. The student did OK with this, but still needs more practice. We did some homework problems, but he should still do more questions on his own."
"The student is learning about probability in his current section. Probability is difficult because it can come down to using proper reasoning and counting skills to figure out what is going on and how likely certain events are. I want him to understand how to think through some of the tougher problems. I don't think he fully understands some of the problems we did last time, so I will go over them again with him. Problem solving in probability can be less systematic, so it is important to build up intuition for how things work by reading the theory."
"The student's homework went in a different direction this time--she is working on mean, median, mode, standard deviation and so on. She did not have a lot of trouble with this material, so we had extra time at the end to work on her multiplication. I drilled her on 7, 8 and 9."
"I assisted the student in math. I checked over a project the was doing for math, which consisted of creating a histogram, data plots, and other statistics (including mean, median, and mode) pertaining to a series of numbers that his teacher assigned to him. He had some errors in it initially, so I pointed them out to him and had him correct them. He did a great job today!"
