Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is showing great improvement with solving quadratic problems using different methods. We began going over controlling his pace while taking a timed test. He is currently struggling with the pressure that comes with timed exams. We will continue taking practice exams and monitor the time of solving each problem."
"The student and I reviewed for an upcoming test tomorrow. We covered the chapter on logarithms and worked on practice problems, focusing on the word problems and the more challenging sections requiring more critical thinking. She did well overall, and I am confident that she understands the material."
"I helped the student prepare for a quiz on arithmetic and geometric series. She had a firm grasp of the concept, so it was largely just a process of walking her through practice problems. We also worked on simple and compound interest, a new concept that she was having trouble with. We reviewed the formulas and why they are different. We also did a number of practice problems, and she was able to largely complete them on her own."
"The student and I went over several practice problems involving different topics. We covered the derivative and anti-derivative when working with the natural log and exponential functions. We went over the concept of an inflection point and how to find it. We even covered some physics-based problems where we found changes in velocity when given the position equation. He seemed very comfortable with all of the material."
"After the break, the student needed a refresher on the old topics. I took the opportunity, with some examples, to convince him that he has to rely more on his intuition and common sense of reality than on the use of mathematical formulas. If the results of the formulas are not consistent with what common sense would have predicted, it is most likely that the math is wrong."
"The student and I had a great session. He has a math competition tomorrow, so we spent our time doing lots of practice problems. We also talked about some strategies that he can use to do keep time, and not get stuck on problems. I gave him several formulas that he should have memorized."
