Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student seemed genuinely willing to work toward improving her SAT skills. She remained respectful and engaged throughout the three-hour session. A tutor can't really ask for more in a student, although she shouldn't be afraid to stand behind her answers and explain the reasons she chose them."
"My intent for our first session was to get a feel for the student's starting point - what areas he was strong in and what areas he was still struggling with. He seems quite comfortable with science and has a strong understanding of the math concepts but sometimes needs guidance in how to apply them appropriately. For homework, I suggested he do a full length practice test, marking how much of the test he gets through in the allotted time. Though his knowledge base is solid, we'll need to focus on getting his speed up, and a diagnostic test like this will help us see exactly how much speed he needs to pick up."
"Session consisted of continuing practice with evaluating/simplifying algebraic expressions. Also practiced with operations and integers. We also worked with flash cards doing multiplication/division fact fluency."
"We worked on the student's science homework. We talked about earthquakes and how moving plates can cause them to happen. The student is a smart kid, he understood the concepts easily and we were able to finish the whole assignment without a problem."
"The student is doing very well with his practice; on the tests we worked on this week and last, he is at 690 for writing, 690 for math, and 750 for critical reading. We worked through two math sections this week, with him breezing through the easy questions. He felt a bit off, and he missed a few keys in the questions, so he needs to slow down and make sure he is answering the right question. In reading, he only missed one question where he had it down to two answers and couldn't trust the simpler answer. With writing, he only missed the hardest question on the section, but he understands the concept of "of one thing, x and y" so he should be good to go! We will look as essay stuff again next week, and then he tests in two weeks!"
