Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed concepts of additive, subtractive, and substitution theorem and applied them to practice problems and proofs."
"We covered similar and congruent figures, corresponding angles and sides, and went over the student's homework."
"Trigonometry: basic trig functions/ratios, special right triangles (30-60-90 and 45-45-90), unit circle, law of cosines, law of sines, Heron's formula."
"We reviewed class notes on computing exterior angles of a triangle and classified triangles by their sides and angles. The student did really well with classifying the triangles; she needs to focus on which vocab words are associated with only side or only angles. Using the formula to solve for exterior angles was easy for her with the equation in front of her, but she had a difficult time remembering it. We'll likely start making a study sheet next session. She also needs to focus on not missing any more school. Learning will be a lot easier when we can focus on the material and less on churning out late assignments. Her planner use is going okay, but I'd like to see more concrete personal deadlines for getting all the make-up work and upcoming projects done."
"The student and I worked through her Chapter 3 test handout, covering mostly construction methods such as bisecting angles, creating perpendicular or parallel lines, and drawing congruent angles/shapes. She has a good grasp of how to use her construction tools. There were a couple things she wasn't sure about, like what a median of a triangle is and how to construct one, but working through the problems brought it back to mind. We also started working on a Chapter 1 review handout which included some algebra. Her algebra skills seem strong."
"The student's main issue is conceptual, which makes improvement relatively easy. We worked on midpoint calculations and triangle inequality theorems today. He picked up the concepts pretty quickly, and we will have another session Monday night to review before his test."
