Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we worked on more FRQs from practice AP Calculus packets. We were able to walk through 3 whole problems. When prompted, the student is able to make the connections she needs to in order to solve the problem. Most of the time, she is on the right track with a little confidence boost and direction. I have seen an improvement in understanding some of the fundamentals of derivatives and integrals over the last two sessions and am confident that she will attain all the skills necessary to do well on the AP."
"Today, the student wanted to focus on trigonometry so he could get a little more ahead in the class. We went over one chapter which dealt with angles of ration in both standard and course trajectory forms. We talked about the rules and techniques to use, then went through the problems in the chapter for extra practice. We then went over the next chapter which dealt with finding the area of triangles and sectors of circles. The area of triangles was determined using two sides and a trigonometric function (sine) which sectors of circles compared the central angle of the sector to the total 360 degrees in a circle. We finished with a brief overview of the unit circle and what the points on it mean. By the end, he seemed to be very confident with the trig functions and unit circle."
"We prepared for the student's upcoming math test. We covered the following areas: percentages, fractions, ratios, scaled figures, and rates. Isabella has mastered the concepts."
"This was a light week because the student's homework was incredibly self explanatory and he has been understanding the material. The only difficult part was beginning integration which was confusing at first for him, but he picked up on it really quickly."
"The student and I worked on 1) test taking techniques (timing, handling multiple choice), 2) creating a review outline, and 3) practice questions from an old AP exam (multiple choice). He is getting there in terms of readiness for the exam, but there are some topics from the early part of the school year that he needed help recalling. We discussed putting these in his outline/notes so that he can better remember them going forward."
"In this session, I covered antiderivatives and integrals with the student. The student had just learned the chain rule concept and seemed to struggle ever so slightly with the steps. At first, she did seem a little intimidated by more complicated book problems, but she felt more comfortable after seeing how easily she could work through them. I did leave the student with a few extra problems to work through. I am confident that she has a decent grasp of the material."
