Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Discussed unit 4, which included active and passive transport, the structure of water and the properties of water (cohesion, adhesion, heat of vaporization, etc.) and iso/hypo/hypertonic solutions."
"The student and I began our session by discussing his recent exam. He stated he scored a 72, and was happy to have his first passing exam grade for the course. We then began to cover new material, which is further study into genetics and the process by which DNA leads to the formation of a protein. We began by reviewing material such as how DNA is related to and different from, RNA, and how RNA is formed from a DNA template. We also discussed how nucleic acids are polymers of nucleotides and proteins are polymers of amino acids. With this information, we then discussed the process of RNA transcription and protein translation, and also the roles of the three main types of RNA: mRNA, tRNA, and rRNA. The student appeared to struggle with the material, but I reminded him that this is understandable given the circumstances (new material that's very in-depth and a return to coursework after the holiday vacation). That being said, the student is showing remarkable progress in his ability to remember, articulate, and process information. I look forward to further discussion of this subject material and seeing his exam grades improve."
"Today we located all of her Biology notes, exams, and assignments and placed them in one folder. Student has a Midterm Final Exam Study Guide that I received a copy of. We discussed vocabulary and I provided a list of defined vocabulary. We learned Allele, Gene, Homozygous, Heterozygous, Dominant, Recessive, Genotype, Phenotype, Punnett Square, Monohybrid Cross."
