Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on essay strategies, and then did a lot of practice math, reading, and English practice problems."
"We had a great session today. We discussed inverses, logs, vectors, matrices, equations for circles, and a few other things. The student absorbed it all very quickly."
"We began by covering the essay she had written. We then focused in on the science section again. The student had improved from where she was before. We then went into the English section. As before, she had no problems. We finished by going through mathematics, and talking about different problems to review. We then discussed the time constraints for the test and what sorts of limits to place on herself for shorter sections to give herself a chance to do problems under the pressure of the actual testing condition."
"I can tell that the student is making progress in his thinking process. He is applying some of the strategies we have talked about so far. Today we worked through one English section passage and a few pages of a math practice. His math skills are good. He working on speed and his ability to decipher what the question is asking. He is improving in English. We talked about a few other English grammar rules today and some more helpful hints/strategies."
"We began with an introductory conversation about what his goals were and what our timeline to work on these goals would be. He is taking his first SAT on October 5 and hopes to make a 1900. If he does not, he will take it again on Nov. 2. We continued by reviewing the basic components of the SAT and discussed some strategies related to SAT test taking. Then we began to prepare for the math section of the test by working practice problems. I have a good idea of what his strengths are with respect to math. I left him with a learning style inventory and a practice SAT test in mathematics. I asked him to complete both of these by our next meeting. The learning style inventory results will help me to determine how best to deliver the material, and the practice SAT test in math will give me a more thorough understanding of where he is with respect to mathematics."
"The student and I reviewed the test as a whole, and the reading comprehension section in particular. She did a very good job!"
"Today, the student and I reviewed problems from his English test and then segued into a Science test, with him feeling confident after having a few techniques explained to him."
"Covered: logical reasoning problems; nonsense logical reasoning problems; prime number laws; prime factorization; divisible by three questions"
"ACT Science, especially graph interpretation questions, Math, with focus on review of elementary Algebra"
"During today's session, the student and I reviewed the problems I had assigned for self-study earlier this week. She performed well across the board on all sections. I provided her with a self-study packet for ACT English review and discussed a few previously assigned sentence correction passages. We then turned our attention to the science, reading, and math sections. She is doing extremely well, and I am confident that she will earn the score she needs and desires for her college applications this fall."
"I met the student. We reviewed the answers to a practice test I sent her. I informed her of several helpful test taking strategies."
"Went over the student's scored mock SAT test. Shared feedback re: improving the essay from the second reader. Took the vocab - she scored 30/30. Continued working on sentence improvement."
