Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session we continued working on problems dealing with first and second derivative interpretations (max, min, POI, Concave Up, Concave Up, increasing, decreasing, etc.) Overall this session went well."
"Today we worked through the student's homework of definite and indefinite integrals. By the end of the session she was doing the problems on her own, and she also was able to correctly decide on answers to the conceptual multiple choice problems. She said that she was also able to do all the problems on the board in class easily since our last session."
"The student and I did Exam prep. We completed 26 questions and covered diff. and int. calculus. We reviewed linearization and implicit differentiation and a number of word problems. She is doing well."
"We covered parametric equations and derivatives. They have a prep book that is filled with practice problems she wants to work on herself."
"The student and I covered more of his second test review questions, including applications of first and second derivatives, as well as application problems. He did very well following the material."
"Covered Derivatives, anti-derivatives, and summation. The student was focused and got the material. He had practice from his class. We will meet again next week."
"The student and I reviewed for her exam tomorrow. We went over parts of the notes she was unclear about. Then we went over old homework problems and practiced doing minimization and maximization problems. She was seeming a lot more comfortable by the end of the session."
"Today the student and I continued to work on preparing for his exam on Thursday. We worked on trig integrals and integration by parts primarily. He's definitely making progress, so we will continue studying diligently. We will meet again tomorrow, where we will focus on putting some finishing touches on his preparation."
"We discussed the definition of a limit, the definition of convergence/divergence for infinite series, and worked through a couple of problems from a previous midterm. Going forward, we're going to work particularly on how to write math solutions."
"The student began a new unit, so we reviewed his notes about graphing functions using the first and second derivative tests. We worked through a problem together, then he worked on one by himself and was able to complete the problem with just a few prompts from me. He is to complete the third problem (the assignment was to do one of the 3) for when we meet on Thursday."
"We did review problems for the student's test tomorrow. The problems were basic integrals like we did yesterday, but with U-substitution. He is learning the material very well, and I am sure he will pass his gateway test tomorrow."
"Today's session started by checking the progress of the student's group project. IT is due next week, and they are putting the final touches on it. This status update transitioned into some time spent exploring the TI-83's capabilities for storing and manipulating complicated or long equations. Specifically, we looked at Y-vars, editing lists, regressions, stat plots, and methods of finding a derivative. Our substantive review work today focused on finding and evaluating derivatives of compounding interest functions. We spent time at the end discussing the merits of compound interest investing and assembling some rudimentary models for comparing different investment and revenue approaches."
