Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed/reworked math problems from the student's SAT score report, simultaneously incorporating previously-learned strategies. Also worked on strategy/prep for college admissions essay."
"We reviewed the student's practice test, with an emphasis on the critical reading and essay. We reviewed what a 6 and 5 grade essay looks like, and devised some strategies for coming up with ideas on the spot. She had the most trouble with the critical reading section - both the vocabulary words and reading passages, so we looked at those together using the process of elimination to increase the chances of getting the right answer. For homework, she will practice critical reading questions."
"We started going over the reading section. Her vocabulary could use some work, so I introduced her to some study skills for that. Another issue that I identified was point of view questions. They tend to confuse her as to who is being referred to. We also spent a significant amount of time going over when to guess. I broke down the scoring and used that as justification to use when to guess. We spent some time in the math section. She confessed that she didn't feel very strong with geometry. Rather than geometry, it seems more like coordinate algebra that is giving her trouble. We briefly reviewed some formulas, but I think she could benefit from going over test taking strategies, since she currently strongly favors formulas."
