Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student covered an introduction to algebra and solving expressions. We also worked on surface area/volume of prisms and cylinders. He was confused initially since he hadn't solved algebraic expressions before, but we broke each step (whether addition/subtraction or multiplication/division) into separate components. After we finished, he said he understood and was able to put the concepts into words he understood."
"Student A and I reviewed her math homework, and I assured that she understood how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide mixed fractions. Student B and I reviewed chemistry homework. I also clarified how to calculate the amount of products (in moles or grams) made from a certain amount of reactants."
"Today, the student and I worked on converting to logarithmic and exponential form. He retained most of the information from last week, and we were able to move to more challenging problems. We solved logarithms for variables, which sometimes involved the cubed root or 4th root of a number."
"We went over half of chapter 11 for his test for Friday. We reviewed prime and composite numbers, factors and multiples, and more of finding equivalent fractions."
"I checked over the student's homework. I had him correct some problems that he got wrong. After this, I assigned him a worksheet in his book. After he completed the page, we played a brief game of chess. I assigned him the last page in his book to complete for homework; I'm going to check over it next time and begin another book with him."
"We reviewed some more mental math today. I also let her teach me today. This expanded a side of her I had never seen before! She really loved teaching me. When the student can teach the material, they feel confident about it. Through teaching she actually realized she didn't fully understand subtracting hundreds, so I was able to then help her."
