Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Although the student had already finished most of the Math review in class, I coached her through the remaining problems and quizzed her thoroughly on all the other questions and how they related to the notecard she is allowed to use for the test."
"After reading an article, the student wrote an essay about Denzel Thompson. He wrote a summary and answered comprehension questions about "The Battle of Chancellorsville." He wrote an essay about the important issues facing the world today. He reviewed testing strategies and common prefixes and suffixes. He read passages from the placement exam book and answered comprehension questions."
"Today we spent most of our time on reviewing the student's math assignments. We covered how to graph an equation using the slope-intercept form y=mx+b. She was able to grasp the concept, but needed a few clarifications. I also showed her how to transition from stand form ax+by=c to slope-intercept form, then finding the necessary points to graph the line. At first, she focused too much on the format, and was unable to grasp how to move from one format to another. After providing some examples, she was able to do a few practice problems before we called it a day."
"The student and I organized his school papers into an accordion folder and a binder. We separated papers that he needs to bring with him to school (recent assignments), and things that he would like to save and keep at home to help him study for finals. The student did a great job with those tasks, and he showed me his progress with this weekly planner. We also reviewed different note-taking methods and discussed which methods have been working well for him. He has an upcoming AP History exam and we agreed that he needs to outline the chapter before then, and I will review it with him next week."
"The student is using her homework folder to good effect. Today, she and I reviewed some world history/geography. We also worked on her English assignments. We formatted one assignment. The student also worked on an outline for another assignment. We will continue working on this during future sessions."
"The student and I checked in, and she seems to be staying on track. She feels confident about her study schedule. We spoke about her upcoming Ethics paper, and were able to clarify the format. We agreed to meet again in 2 weeks to discuss her History midterm paper. I feel that she is doing very well, but she seems to feel that she needs someone to connect with in order to keep herself accountable."
