Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Worked with the student on finding the difference between rational and irrational numbers. Also worked with her on how to place irrational and rational numbers in order."
"Student and I went over old quizzes and the test study guide in preparation for her test tomorrow. We covered piecewise functions. We also covered finding the intercepts, vertex, and line of symmetry for absolute value functions and quadratic functions. We went over going from a graph to an equation and vice versa."
"Review of introductory algebra topics including PEMDAS, combining like-term and probability, as well as geometry. Geometry topics included the Pythagorean theorem, sum of triangles, and supplemental/complementary angles. Together we completed two skills sheets for her homework this week consisting of 5-6 word problems in addition to a packet on geometry. We also reviewed her vocabulary words for the week, went over the definitions and composed sentences for which the words could be or would be most commonly used."
"The student and I had a long session today. We are trying to push to get all of her assignments finished before beginning at her new school. Today we finished module 8 test (parts 1 and 2) and began module 9. We covered quadratic models, completing the square, the quadratic formula, and application of the quadratic formula. Module 9 is more challenging for her than module 8 was, but she is doing a great job. I feel like her confidence is improving a lot."
"Yesterday, we covered adding and subtracting negatives, simplifying algebraic expressions and solving algebraic expressions. The student worked on her school homework the first part of the session and she flew through it very easily. She understands her material very well, so we went a little further and worked on some new material. She didn't understand some of it at first, but really succeeded after repetition. She is very bright and can complete her work on her own; she just needs someone to make sure she's on top of everything."
"We worked through some problems on the student's online homework which covered personal finance: credit cards, loans, and interest. Some concepts she initially had some questions on, but after some thorough explanation of definitions of terms and working through some examples together, she seemed to gain a solid understanding of most of the concepts. Some problems she was able to do independently after we did some similar examples together. I may give her some enrichment homework to help her improve with rounding. Overall, I think she found the session to be very helpful and appeared to be relieved to have gotten some clarity on these cryptic financial problems."
