Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I couldn't be more please with the student's growth. His mother shared with me his second trimester scores and compared to first trimester (prior to tutoring), he has improved in 8 out of 10 areas in math. He also improved in his multiplication fact mastery. He is now up to an average of 9.2/min from his initial 7.7/min."
"Good session today with the student. We went over sequences and series for her quiz tomorrow, as well as covered explicit and recursive forms of sequences. We also covered arithmetic, geometric sequences, and the differences between sequence and series, not to mention that we discussed notation. This seemed to clear a few things up!"
"The student had some pre-algebra problems about addition and subtraction with negative integers to do this week. He had little trouble with the first few, but started getting bogged down with the more complex ones. We talked about the concept of negative numbers, how to make equations easier to understand by factoring out signs, the commutative property of addition, and the importance of showing your work. He only had to do the first five problems for his class, but he was able to go through every problem on the worksheet. He also needs to work on his organizational skills, so we took out all of the loose sheets in his math binder and sorted them into categories. He came up with categories that make sense for his class, and started a simple organization system using sticky notes. His job for this week is to sort all the papers he received into the correct categories every single day. I also wrote down some notes about his organization system for him to take home and talk about with his mother."
"This session we covered more differentiation and integration techniques and concepts. We reviewed material that was given by the teacher. There was also a packet the student had and was excited to get help with the packet. The student was very satisfied with his review and asked me to assign him more questions so he can practice. The student is very focused and attentive to what he is being advised to do. His attitude and dedication is great, he informed me that after our last session he made a 92% on a quiz which in turn showed in his confidence level. I feel that he is on the right track to success. I am pleased to see him happier and more comfortable with the AP Calculus."
"We covered concepts of expected value, variance, expected value of a constant times the random variable and variance of a constant times the random variable. We solved basic probability problems. The student's attitude was positive, she was willing to learn and understand the material. She needs to practice concepts reviewed in session to get a perfect understanding of them. We will work next on differentiating different types of probability problems and understanding notation."
"The student wanted to go over the lesson concepts before starting his homework. He had to review antiderivatives and definite integrals. He was able to go through the work without much difficulty, and I had given him the notes on the problems he had questions on. He then went to finish his homework for more practice. He said he did not have much difficulty with his test last Friday, and thought he did well. We ended the session with plans for another review for the next test."
