Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed a big lab project, then started studying for the student's social studies quiz this week. I have asked him to check with his social studies teacher as well as his science teacher before I see him on Wednesday so that we can be certain we study all the necessary notes for both his social studies quiz and his science test. Today he said it feels really great to be ahead and on top of his assignments. It is wonderful to have instilled confidence in him, and I am grateful that he is seeing the benefits of all the hard work we have been doing."
"While looking over what the student wrote in his agenda this past weeks, I told him to be more specific about his assignments. i.e.) If he has a vocal quiz weekly, I would want him to write vocab quiz chap 9 (1-10). In addition to talking about his agenda, we went over his vocabulary words and discussed his science review questions on rocks/minerals."
"For this session, we briefly reviewed Spanish vocab (el mercado) and mainly focused on History. In History, the student is studying WWII. We reviewed terms, prepped for the essay exam, and discussed strategies for the exam."
"The student had a sheet of problems for math that we finished quickly, and then went over practice questions for reading comprehension for a standardized test he had over the weekend. He read two passages and answered the questions entirely on his own, then I graded them and we discussed. We worked on a new technique, of writing the topic of each paragraph in the margins, to get him to slow down and consider what he's reading. When he applied this new technique on his own to the final passage, he was able to get every question correct."
"For our first session, the student and I worked through his Science and Math homework. We were to create a list of pros and cons for genetically modified foods. He then worked through his Math problems with little or no interruption during each problem set. He also provided me his school website so we can track his assignments and progress together."
"We went over the student's vocabulary online; she is really on top of it right now. I then created several math problems for her. Her ability to round decimals has improved greatly. Now, we will focus on multiplying decimals."
