Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over some questions that had to do with grammar. We went through each one and talked about the answers and how to correct the sentences. Many of the sentences are issues with parallelism or subject/verb agreement. We also talked about the longer passages and she agreed to complete one before our session on Wednesday. I also reminded her to continue to write down any words that she does not know as she reads through the passages/questions."
"During today's session with the student, we worked on critical reading and math. At the beginning of the session, we reviewed the answers to a critical reading section I had asked her to complete between our last session and today's. On the sentence completion questions, which test her vocabulary, she did very well. On the passage-based reading questions, which test her reading comprehension skills, she had a bit of trouble understanding the majority of one passage and parts of the others. After going into these questions in more depth, I believe she took away a better, more accurate understanding of the passage and its intent. For math, I gave her two timed math sections. On the first math section, she did rather well but ran into trouble on a couple of questions. Overall, these questions tested her knowledge of geometry (especially with regard to properties of intersecting lines) and of rules of exponents, the latter of which is something we have discerned as an area that will require additional studying and "brushing up on" outside of our sessions as well. We also reviewed how to set up algebraic expressions for given sequences in order to find the value of the n-th term of a sequence without adding every value prior to it. For my final session with her on Wednesday, I plan to continue reviewing math concepts and also to work on her vocabulary."
"In today's session I noticed the student's main weaknesses are essay composition and vocabulary; we will work on improving those as we go on."
