Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"At today's session, the student and I went over algebra and biology. For algebra, we went over his test and looked at the questions he got wrong. He had a worksheet to complete, and I asked him to pick out the problems he found most challenging. I helped him work through the seven word problems he chose. He was able to get through these without much difficulty. For biology, he had a lab assignment that dealt with writing reference citations in the proper format."
"For this session, we covered dichotomous keys and began studying for the final exam. The student seemed to be retaining the information pretty well!"
"During our first session, I had asked the student to go back over the material they had previously covered in class and make a note of those topics and questions she felt like she most needed to review for her final exam. She didn't exactly bring me a list but did request that we use the lesson to go over the typical life cycles of the three most common groups of fungi (basidiomycetes, ascomycetes and zygomycetes), specifically addressing the functional differences between the three types of nuclear arrangement (haploid, diploid and dikaryotic) found in fungal cells, the concept of mating types, and the sexual and asexual reproductive processes, as well as generally review their basic morphology and ecology. We also spent some time talking about plant classification and characteristics of gymnosperms vs. angiosperms and di- vs. monocots, the reproductive cycle of a typical flowering plant, and fruit morphology as evolutionary adaptations to seed dispersal on land. All in all a very pleasant session, and I look forward to working with her again."
