"Today, we went through the homework she performed in the past couple days. We continued to work on math word problems and creating algebraic equations from these word problems. She is struggling to comprehend or learn the more difficult concepts I am teaching her."
"We've been working on developing test taking skills and student showed good progress this evening. I've also incorporated a "Dictionary" game where we randomly select new vocabulary words and try to infer their definition from use in context. We're also expanding our introduction to probability by incorporating more card games and figuring out the probability that given hands will win or lose."
"Today we reviewed some math strategies and then focused on reading comprehension practice. We experimented with having the student read each passage twice through before trying to answer the reading questions, as he indicated that he often "zoned out" while reading the passages due to finding the material typically boring to read. The double-read strategy seemed to improve his accuracy quite a bit while only slowing him down a little, so we will continue to practice this and try to get his performance on the test up to level I feel he can achieve."
"We time a reading section and went over the answers that the student missed. She seems to have the most difficulty in finishing the readings, so we talked about how to improve her time. Then we did a couple passages from a science section."
"Today the student and I went over another practice exam she had taken. Her score improved on two of the four sections. First we reviewed the essay, which the student was consistently strong in. After that we went over the two math sections of the practice exam. For our next session, the student will continue making flashcards, and take another practice exam."
"Today, the student completed a practice test from a test book. She successfully completed all of the questions in the allotted time, and she scored very well. The book offers many sections to study and practice, which would be very beneficial for her to spend time completing."
