Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is continuing to take practice tests, and her scores are going up. She's focusing on "high-yield" areas, like exponents and roots. We did some work with inequalities and absolute value. After that, we went through some distance and word problems, and I showed her how to work from what you know to what the problem is asking for."
"Today the student and I met and went through another quantitative practice test. We did 5 questions at a time and timed each section to work on pacing. Throughout the process, we discussed strategies for specific problems and time management. We will meet again on Saturday."
"My fourth tutoring session with the student went well. We started our session by reviewing any assigned questions that she had trouble with in Section 6 of Practice Test 1 and the Algebra section of the Math Review. She answered most of the questions correctly. She feels more confident overall about the Quantitative sections on the exam. We then worked through geometry and probability questions in Practice Test 2 in the guide. For our next tutoring session, she will complete the first practice exam on the test prep CD and work through the Arithmetic section of the Math Review in the guide. She will also work on geometry, probability, permutation, and combination questions in her online program."
"We went over the general features of GRE quantitative and went over a semi-diagnostic test. The student is a fast learner and organized student. I have no concerns."
"We went over more probability and algebraic questions, as discussed from last time. We reviewed some of the key concepts in the GRE as well, to refresh his memory. I think the student is making good progress. I'm seeing improvements already in the way he solves problems."
"We tackled much of the geometry required for the test. Towards the end of this part, I discovered the student was struggling with some important and basic arithmetic properties, which we covered in depth and resolved promptly. All of the teaching was directed to the conceptual understanding of the topics, so for example I gave the proofs of the triangle area formula and the Pythagorean theorem as an exercise that we solved together. The student bought the GRE math review book where she has a lot more material to practice on. The student seems much more ready and confident, even though the last session was over a week ago."
