Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"[Final Review 2 of 3] The student and I are reviewing for his final over the course of the next 3 sessions. Topics covered include differentiation, integration, related rates, optimization, and inverse functions."
"Today, the student and I began looking at derivatives, first in terms of tangent slopes to graphs, then by the limit definition, and finally getting into shortcut algorithms and different notation. She seemed to pick up the material quickly."
"Today the student and I went over the integral test, convergence and divergence, and double integrals. He is doing very well, he seems to be grasping the new material fairly easily. I told the student he should work on remembering r (geometric series) and p series, so that he can solve convergence/divergence problems easier."
"We went over some practice problems today in preparation for the exam. While a majority of it went over well with exponential functions and logarithms. Towards the end of the session, he seemed to improve with his approach towards partial differentiation, which had been a challenging area."
"The student had gotten a C on his most recent quiz. Today, we focused on higher derivatives and critical points. We practiced taking the second derivative of a variety of functions, which gave him additional practice with derivatives. We then applied the concept of a derivative to find relative extrema of given functions. These problems can be very long, so we only practiced two and finished up by discussing the overall process."
"Covered several examples of the relationship between surface area and volume using integrals. Derived the volume of a cone, square based pyramid, and sphere using volume of rotation technique. Left the student with a small puzzle."
