Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed the verbal and written parts of the college entrance exam. If he makes great accomplishments in those two fields we will also work on some math, but my main goal right now is to help his reading and writing. Today we mostly worked on grammar. We worked on rephrasing parts of sentences. I had him read the beginning portions of each of the sections we worked on, so he will not have to waste time reading them when he is actually taking the test. I also did some basic essay explaining, telling him that he will only have 25 minutes to write it. I said that his essay will be graded by two judges using a score of 1 to 6, and pointed out where his book shows the different qualities an essay of each score will have. I also mentioned that the higher the score is, the better. For homework, I want him to write a timed essay, using a prompt taken from the beginning of his book. When he is finished writing it, he should compare it to the written ones that are given in the book and determine what parts of it should be improved on. I'll have a better idea on how he is at writing when I read his essay the next time we meet."
"I reviewed the practice sections that the student did for homework. We then worked through a math lesson and a practice math section."
"We worked on strategies for the SAT Math questions, focusing on substituting real numbers into theoretical questions. We also spent time going over grammar issues that are commonly seen on the SATs."
