Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's reading and a summary of two stories from the fiction collection I lent him, and began looking to see which books he could write reviews about on Amazon. I think that he would have more incentive, and more reward, in writing a review that other people would see. He has done extensive reading and has very defined tastes, mostly in the YA genre."
"For warm-up, the student went through the practice ACT questions that he took over the weekend and tried to correct his mistakes. Then we went through our lesson on brackets and quotation marks. He has a little bit of trouble understanding when to use a few of the rules, so we spent the majority of the session on the lesson. In the last five minutes, he had me look at the descriptions for some of his pieces in his portfolio. For those, he simply needs to add more details and explain why those pieces are important to him, and why he choose for them to be included in his portfolio. He has a couple of worksheets over brackets and quotation marks that he can choose to do, but the most important thing for him to do is to finish up his portfolio and study for the ACT."
"We did a slightly abbreviated session Wednesday, meeting for an hour to review a partial draft of the student's next paper and talk through her thoughts for an "op-ed" regarding immigration and cultural identity in the US, Canada and Shanghai. We will meet Saturday this week to look at a full draft."
