Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished up learning to write the last of the alphabet letters. We read the B and C Sound books again and the student has a great memory. He even started sounding out the words he did not know. We watched a short video featuring the ABC song, then we practiced it together while looking at the full alphabet paper I created. I recorded him singing the ABC song by himself and sent the recording to his mother. The student blew me away today - great enthusiasm, great memory and attention span."
"The student spent most of this session working on the his math homework. He is getting ready for finals. We discussed strategies for remembering information by writing down quick notes while reading and circling important information in math word problems for easy recall later. I've tasked him with keeping notes of everything he reads going forward. I made it very clear that this was going to be an integral part of our work from now on."
"Today I had the opportunity to have an introductory session with the student to gain insight into his abilities and deficits reading. He was able to explain to me that he struggles generally with reading. His mother provided further information about his struggles with fluency and comprehension. In addition to getting to know him and his interests, I had him create sentences with short phrases and to draw pictures. I used this method to determine his basic vocabulary skills and ability to create images from what he's reading. I would like to continue this activity next week, and have him focus on punctuation, expressive language, and linking topics. I plan to incorporate other games, strategies, and programs in future sessions. I would also like to utilize a tracking method to ensure that he is improving in these skill areas."
