Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I helped the student prepare and study for her science test on Wednesday. We went over some questions she had to do for homework and I re-explained some of the concepts she wasn't sure about. Finally I quizzed her over information in the book. I hope she does well!"
"Today's session consisted of diagnostic testing and interest surveys. Data gathered from the diagnostic assessment revealed that the student has strengths in understanding order of operations, and some basic multiplication skills. He struggles with multiple-digit multiplication, division, fractions, and geometry (knowledge of shapes and angles). He did demonstrate the use of some math strategies he uses to help him remember and retain information. He also expressed that he needs help with multiple digit regrouping with addition and subtraction."
"The student and I had a great first session together! We primarily worked on math because he has a test this Tuesday. We hit ratios, rates, and dimensional analysis pretty hard. He seems to have a solid understanding of all of these and is able to do an impressive amount of math in his head. I tried to guide him to do problems in such a manner that will be helpful to him later on when he gets into more complex math and quantitative sciences. The only thing he had a bit of trouble with was the more advanced dimensional analysis, which was probably harder than anything he will have on the test, but with a bit more practice he should have it down."
"Reviewed essay and work done in previous two weeks. Looked over verbal section and identified ways to improve results. Reviewed test-day procedures and future study schedule."
"We traced uppercase and lowercase letters, A-Z. We read a book about the USA. I read to her from a children's magazine, and we completed a find-the-object game. There were no scores or grades to note progress. The student struggled with focus, but it's normal, since she's only four years old. I left her some blank alphabet writing worksheets. I've no concerns."
"Today we started and almost finished the exercise about the student's hypothetical budget for food and clothing. We researched and discussed various ways to save money on groceries and other day-to-day expenses. We also discussed asking his teacher for a specific grading rubric and specific qualifications for his final project to make sure we're on the same page and that the grading system is consistent."
