Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered mean, median, mode, range, solving equations, plotting points, inequalities, angles, box plot, fractions, and negative numbers. The student needed help with median so we went over that in detail. He was positive towards the material that was reviewed. I gave him a few tips on how to add and subtract negatives. He is doing pretty well. He did better on speed this time, but he could still use some work. A lot of what we did was review, so it was expected that he knew it well. He has a good grasp on mean median, mode, and range, but can still practice some more. We will continue to work on these."
"We covered inflection points, initial valued problems and probability that were on the student's take home test. She was struggling to remember how to take some simple anti-derivatives. I'll send her some additional worksheets to practice topics that are similar to her take home test."
"Today we worked on his take home test that covered a lot on linear, quadratic, and exponential equations. He did well. He needed a refresher on some of the definitions and how to find the pattern but once he got it, he flew through the math. We will meet again on our regular Tuesday."
"We started with a multiplication drill. After that, we identified equivalent expressions; the student did not have any trouble simplifying the expressions, but needed a bit of help with the multiplication so we went over that in detail. We then covered volume of prisms, which was a good review: mean, mode, and range of stem and leaf line plots. She enjoyed this and was comfortable executing the processes necessary to solve the problems."
"On Tuesday, the student and I worked on using points on the coordinate plane to create various shapes. He did an excellent job recognizing which quadrant on the plane a particular point should be placed. He also did a good job creating shapes like squares and rectangles. He needed some help with more complex shapes, such as rhombuses, but with some prompting he was able to recognize the pattern. On Thursday, we worked on finding the area and perimeter of various types of triangles. He did a good job identifying the features of a equilateral, right, and isosceles triangle, and once he understood the formula, he also was able to figure out the area of the triangles with some help from me."
"We split the session between solving word problems with systems of equations and graphing inequalities - both single ones and bounded regions. He needed some help with the word problems but is doing well solving the systems and graphing. He received a 97 on his last exam."
