Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent most of the session working on a 4-page test review for Chapter 13 (slope and y-intercept). I spoke to his mother and explained that I'll be meeting with his teacher later today and we are going to sync up our lessons."
"The concepts we covered were expanding polynomials, dividing polynomials, exponential decay, solving for x when there's a radical or a fraction involved, and solving complex word problems for the Algebra 2 EOC."
"Today the student and I worked on study design. We talked about different sampling methods, different types of bias, and experimental design. Finally we also talked about correlation and did some practice problems. She is doing a great job of staying on top of the material and I think she is setting herself up for success on her upcoming exams."
"Today we completed a worksheet on the SOH, CAH, TOA formulas which went really well! The student was hesitant at the beginning of the worksheet but by the end of the session, I think she really got the hang of using the formulas. We worked on creating a system to approach trig problems to and to identify when to use certain concepts as well as relationships to help make future problems more simple. I suggested that she follow our step by step procedure in the future, even if it seems tedious, just so she can better familiarize herself with the process. I'm excited because she really showed improvement between the beginning and end of the session and was really able to solve problems confidently on her own by the end."
"Reviewed calculus concepts: integration by differentiation, chain rule, rates of change. Recommended working on similar questions from course text and past papers. Left past copies of free response questions."
"The student and I had a really productive meeting ahead of his test on exponents, scientific notation, and properties of functions. Coming in, he was unclear on some of the concepts, and had some misunderstandings about others. But as we went through them, he seemed to grasp the ideas much better, and was able to go on and get the rest of the problems correct. He said he was feeling very positive about the upcoming test. I left him with some tips that will help with some of the concepts (for example, how to determine whether something is a function), and urged him to review what we'd covered before the test."
