Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I worked on trigonometry. First we discussed the general trigonometric functions and how to calculate them using the unit circle. He did well on this when the measures were in degrees (usually this meant a special right triangle, which he is very comfortable with) and when we reviewed the basic equations. The more comfortable that the student is with the unit circle and radians, the better he will be at the whole unit. Next, we moved on to graphing trigonometric equations, and this was more difficult. The graphs are tough anyway, and modifying them even more so. I think that the student will get better and more comfortable with them if he does a lot of practice problems."
"Today, the student brought in a packet of AP Calculus questions that we went over. We worked through all the non-calculator questions. As we went through, I took note of certain subjects that she needed some help on, so that next session, I can bring in some more practice."
"We went over problems involving statistics, including calculating the mean, median, mode, range, inter-quartile range, standard deviation and variance. By the end of the session, the student was able to solve the problems correctly."
"The student's 3+ digit addition is really good now, and he can almost do it without writing all of the steps down. His multiplication by 8's is also really speedy now, while still remaining accurate."
"We practiced math facts, including multiplication and addition/subtraction in the same number sentence. We also played SET again, in which the student liked the challenge."
"Today, we finished up money by working on problem solving with earning money and more or less. Then, measurement was introduced - longest/shortest and nonstandard units of length."
