Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went over interactive exercise and one entire quiz today on estimations. Then went over entire lesson on fractions, decimals and percents. Helped guide with some concepts and problem-solving. He is getting more adept at using a systematic approach to reach the answer with fewer mistakes, including writing on paper if necessary. I would like him to practice a bit more long division. I recommended he finish the interactive exercises and quizzes on fractions, decimals and percents before next week."
"He seemed to understand the concepts well when we talked about his mistakes. After going over the test, we talked about the new chapter he was starting in class on series and sequences. We covered the geometric series test and the integral test tonight."
"In this session with the student, we tackled a new math assignment from school. The concepts were all new, but it was due the next day. The main concepts covered are mid-point and distance of co-ordinates and equations of a circle. As always, we tackled one segment at a time, where I do a problem step-by-step, write down the formulae and techniques, and then the student tries some on her own. Then we check them together and iron out any creases in understanding. I left her with detailed notes and tips to improve. Today, the student's mother said she did really well in her last math test. So, I believe she is improving."
"We covered limits, specifically laws and discontinuities. We have moved towards working with limits algebraically. The student has a good understanding of the concepts at hand, but he needs more time to be comfortable with the terminology and articulating the concepts. I have assigned extra practice and reading (section 2.5)."
"The student has gone back to derivatives in class. We went over how to sketch a graph of a graphed function's derivative. Also we covered the derivative of the log functions and exponential functions. There was a review of the algebra behind logs as well. She scored a 90% on her last quiz which is an improvement on her previous scores. I left her with some problems to do from her book."
"Today, we reviewed the student's final homework, and we reviewed the previous homework assignment to make sure the student still understood the contents. He showed great improvement in his algebra and u-substitution skills in our lessons!"
