Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We focused on the math and science sections of the placement test, reviewing areas of confusion and practicing test-taking skills. The student mostly struggles with pacing."
"We began the class by discussing the SAT that he had taken the previous week and how he felt about it. After that, we spent the rest of the class doing ACT preparation, since he is taking the exam next week. We started by working on different types of science questions of all three types--data representation, research summaries, and conflicting viewpoints. He showed a good mastery of all three types. We then spent some time working on English and reading comprehension. The ACT English is a bit more difficult than the SAT writing multiple choice, since the passages are much longer. I encouraged him to read through the entire passage before answering the questions so he gets a sense of the overall shape and structure of it, before delving into its specifics in the questions. Finally, we worked on the math, with a focus on trigonometry. I also reminded him that he needs to study his mathematical formulas, since the ACT, unlike the SAT, does not provide them."
"The student scored a 24 on her science test and a 20 on her math test. Her science has gotten much stronger, but she is still struggling a bit with math."
