Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We got everything set up so that we could do some screen sharing and other things for the session, and then the student and I evaluated his grades and looked at his missing assignments. He was able to find a couple of assignments that he had completed, but not turned in, and we completed three of his other missing assignments, so we're making some good progress towards getting him caught up. He worked really well through the whole session. We worked on percents and ratios, and he picked up on both of them very quickly."
"We covered rectangular and polar forms of angles on a coordinate plane as well as inscribed angles within a circle. That was his only difficulty, and he became very understanding of the material relatively quickly. I instructed him to do 5-8 particular problems in his textbook that were similar to the ones we worked on during our session."
"I wrote a math review for the student that covered scientific notation, single variable problems, and word problems. She completed half with me, and the other half was left for her to finish by her next session along with some pages from a pre-algebra workbook I gave her. We then worked on her homework and covered inequalities, specifically, how to solve them, graph them, and then check your work. She was incredibly focused."
"Worked with the student on her geometry to prepare for an upcoming test. The material was on triangles and the relationship between different bisectors and their occurrences. We spent some time going over every instance and why things were the way they were, and by the end she felt more comfortable and better prepared for her exam."
"We continued to go through the practice tests that her teacher has given her. She seems to display a far greater comprehension that she did at the beginning of our sessions!"
"I covered the chapter on slopes with the student, and I did examples from "finding the slope using the graph," "finding the slope from two sets of point," "find the slope intercept-form from the standard form," "find the standard equation," and "solve for the equation by using substitution." At the end of the session, she told me that she now understood the chapter better."
"This session was spent focusing on imaginary and complex numbers. We did several arithmetic problems involving complex numbers, particularly multiplication and exponents. We also did some manipulation with parabolas (creating an equation based on the roots). We finished the evening with a review of completing the square."
"The student and I reviewed the question-by-question sheet provided by her professor. This included correlation, linear regression, and types of variables. I am providing a summary sheet for formulas and types of tests for the next session. We will meet again twice before the final. I think she will be very well prepared for the final."
"We are continuing to review for the student's final. We talked through some of the concepts from the beginning of her class, like measures of central tendency and dispersion and box graphs. We reviewed how to calculate the mean and standard deviation of a probability distribution and general rules of probability."
"We covered regression analysis and interpreting the output. We also covered an extra credit assignment and some ways we may go about analyzing the data. Extra practice suggested was to write exactly what each value means on an output file for regression."
"I helped her prepare for her final exam. We went over her Exam 2. I gave her some practice problems to do that I thought would show up on her final."
"We covered parts for a final review in Statistics. Mainly, since the student felt confident with simulations, we jumped into sampling techniques, experiment design, normal distribution questions and also questions on probability which rely more on the formulas and understanding them. I left the student with extra practice today to go over the differences between stratified and cluster samples."
