Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student finished off his first quarter with a solid A, and has begun his second quarter with an A-, overall demonstrating significant improvement from his formerly-reported B- in Spanish I. Nonetheless, he demonstrated a slight lack of preterit understanding on his last quiz, so we spent the session on the past tense. I first had him write out the conjugation endings for -AR, -ER, and -IR verbs, later giving him verbs to conjugate. Eventually, I wrote out subject examples, differentiating between vosotros (translated: you all, you guys, y'all - he had the most trouble on this specific conjugation) and ellos/ellas (they). Overall, he learned the difference, and thus demonstrated a solid understanding of the preterit conjugations by the end of the session. We finished off by watching Hora de Aventura, noting the uses of the preterit."
"This was our first session. I looked over some previous tests and worksheets and we worked on assignments covering direct and indirect object pronouns. I plan to design further exercises to practice this topic for future sessions."
"Since the student has a Spanish test next Wednesday, we worked on some of her homework assignments to review. We focused on the indirect object and direct object. She initially had a little difficulty differentiating between the direct and indirect object but she seemed to have a better grasp of those grammatical concepts by the end of the session. She told me that she would take a day to review her notes before our next session on Saturday."
"We reviewed seasons, and tener + hambre, sed and miedo. We also learned a few Halloween words and used them in sentences. The student says he's been doing very well in class and is even starting to get ahead."
"The student is working with reflexive verbs. She said she had had a vocabulary test this past week and she felt confident she had done well. She was making a few common errors with the verbs and I was able to help her understand the mistake. We previewed a few activities and I guided her through an assignment, reviewing "ser" and "estar"."
"The student worked on memorizing his final presentation today. We made a great amount of progress since we had 2/3 of the presentation and the most difficult part of the presentation memorized. He started to realize how to map translations from English to Chinese."
