Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is a good student but just needs some help recognizing what the questions are actually asking. He has plenty of time to study so I gave him homework for our next session. I would like to get his first diagnostic test in asap."
"Today in our group session we worked on the Essay and the Writing section of the test. The boys had written essays from a sample prompt in the book, and I read through them and provided feedback. Then we started going through the topics that are most tested in the Sentence parts of the test; there are no specific grammar rules tested, but they are trying to see how well you can write and edit. We went over things like passive voice, run-on sentences, mixed modifiers, etc. We also did a sample writing section together, discussing the answers."
"Student 1 worked on translations and reflections of images about the x=y, x-axis, and y-axis for Geometry. Student 2 worked on problems of powers of unity of the complex number z on the complex plane. Also, he reviewed the unit circle and roots in general of complex numbers."
"Today the student and I read most of another chapter in Fellowship, and we also discussed how current events, like the political situation in China, the precarious position of India and Pakistan, and the interests of the United States all coincide. "
"The student and I worked on Physics and Math homework. In Physics, he was working on graphing and writing equations. This was just like using slope-intercept form from Algebra. In Algebra, we were taking word problems and using them to set-up an equation in slope-intercept form and then use that equation to answer questions. He is doing well with the topic. I asked him each time what he thought we should do and what they are asking from us. He also took a test last week and he got an A! So proud of him."
