Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I continued covering topics that we had covered during yesterday's session. These included scientific notation, significant figures, interconversion of metric units, determination of slope, and the concepts of "accuracy vs precision." Today's session was focused more on doing practice problems involving each of these concepts. He has a test on this material, this upcoming Wednesday. So I wanted to prepare him to do well on it."
"We covered material that would be on her exam next week. Chapters 1-3 in her biology book. She did very well, and she is very smart!"
"We covered chapter 3 and 4 of his organic chemistry textbook and did problems to prepare for his midterm coming up in a couple weeks. He is not struggling with any particular concept and seems to understand all the material in the course thus far. I am confident that weekly tutoring sessions will help him earn a high grade in this course. I left him with textbook problems to complete."
"Good work today! I will email you the links to two old exams. Try your best to work through Part B-2 and Part C for each exam before our next session on Monday. As you work through the sections, make note of any questions that you don't know how to solve or that you needed to go to the answer key to check. We will plan to go over these questions first on Monday. Try to implement the strategies we have discussed as you go through these two practice exams so you can be more comfortable using them when you take your exam."
"In today's session, we continued our work on the review packet the student received in class. We specifically focused on gas laws, specific heat problems, and solubility. She did much better in today's session, but she should still try to finish the packet on her own. She also needs to make sure she remembers any important formulas if the class will not be given a formula sheet on the exam. I told her to contact me if she had any additional questions from now until test day."
"The student and I continued to study for her final. She had looked through the beginning chapters of her book and decided which ones she needed to review or get clarification on. We went through the key concepts of two of these chapters and she wrote down any specific details she struggled to remember. Specifically, we studied the process of meiosis and the rules of inheritance. We also reviewed chemistry in the body. We will continue to move through the problem chapters until she has a strong grasp of all the material to be found on her exam. For our last session, I would like to go through all her notes and quiz her for her knowledge. It might be fun to make some kind of game out of it as well. In all, I am confident that she will do very well on her final exam."
