Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered LSDR and how to calculate regression equations using residuals. We went over alternative models and transformations on exponential and root models in order to linearize. The student has a much better idea of how to approach these calculations now."
"We covered the Chi-Square test (Goodness of Fit and Test of Independence). We went over some of her practice problems, and will continue with them next session."
"We worked on graphing quadratics. Specifically, making a table of values, and finding the axis of symmetry, the vertex, the direction the parabola opens, and the x and y intercepts. The student did well with all of this. He did better when he wrote a little more of his work out rather than trying to do it all mentally. He did very well!"
"The student and I worked on multiplying mixed numbers with whole numbers, and she got much faster toward the end of the session! I still think it will be a good idea to test her repeatedly even on fraction multiplication concepts that she seems to understand. The student's mother told me that the student has trouble telling time, so we also spent part of our session working through some time-telling problems and she did quite well overall. We finished the session with a review of her very short reading homework (she needed to read two passages and answer a handful of corresponding questions) and with a quick run through some multiplication tables."
"Today was another great day with the student. Before I got there she had started on some online homework that she had to do. So as soon as I arrived we went ahead and reviewed that homework and went over the concepts and problems in there. She did a great job overall. However, she still struggles with trying to do everything as mental math. She is getting better about showing her work, but tries to fly through it without showing her work. We covered concepts of 3-D objects, fractions, and basic math problems in the homework. As well as, plenty of word problems and problem solving. The strategies covered were related to the homework and problem solving of 3-D images and understanding how to break it down into 2-D perspective."
"Today, the student and I continued with her Algebra work and further more with Chemistry. We discussed limiting reagents and percent yield in Chemistry. And in Algebra, we discussed rationalizing denominators more and then further onto her homework which included simplifying expressions with exponents. The student is doing much better than last week. I believe my help along with her teacher and catching back up to pace has been great. She has a positive attitude towards the material and is learning really well. I told her the best study skills are do the practice problems from the book, so that she gets as much experience with problems as possible. The student has a test coming up next week, and I believe that she will do well. I believe if she keeps working hard she will continue to progress."
