Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we went through the student's webwork and questions. The material is primarily concerned with numerical integration techniques for trigonometric/inverse trigonometric functions. The work relied on several trigonometric identities and substitutions. She is having a good deal of trouble with this section. We agreed that a careful study using flashcards or another method to memorize these identities could prove useful. I encouraged her to write down things she will need to remember for the exam as she continues to work through these."
"The student & I met at the library. We started our session by the student doing on a 2 minute multiplication drill online. He did well, scoring about 85-90% of the questions. I later used my cell phone as our instructional guide. With a math app, he was to solve a variety of questions in regards to finding the area of a shape as well as understanding expressions and equations."
"We covered complex roots, solving and displaying on Argand diagrams. Worked on several problems in preparation for Wednesday's quiz, and discussed general ways to attack problems."
"We stayed mainly on geometry this session. The student wants to understand the material and get it all done. My approach is to take him through all of the information at a pace he can handle."
"The student completed most of his homework for the week this session. He had a lot of practice with the order of operations, which he had forgotten initially. After I wrote the PEMDAS reminder, he was able to solve all of the problems correctly. He's getting the hang of finding the common denominator for fractions, though we need to write out a list of the steps needed to convert fractions."
"The student and I worked on correcting math assignments, memorizing her reading oath, and some placement exam math concepts using and labeling a graph. She needed help with this as it was a two-step problem, but we worked on it together and will continue to work on it together in the coming sessions."
