Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I covered many topics for his Chemistry class. We covered Significant Figures, Scientific Notation, Interconversion of Metric Units, Problem Solving Involving Converting Metric Units, and Questions from a lab assignment he had last week. I did not see any scores of his yet, but he does have a test this upcoming Wednesday. I wrote out the hierarchy of metric units for him, and told him to memorize it. That will help him when converting between different levels of units in that hierarchy (i.e. centimeters to kilometers, millimeters to meters). I did leave the student with a few practice problems on each of the topics that we went over. He also has a review packet to complete, which includes practice questions on each of these topics."
"Today we did a review of the student's chapter 1 and 2 material to prepare her for her exam on Monday. This was basic introductory chemistry material. Most of her questions were in regard to wordings in the PowerPoint notes that were confusing to her (English is her 2nd language). I was able to clarify the material for her. We worked through a couple of sample problems figuring out empirical and chemical formulae. She does well once she understands the steps. To help her remember the naming of compounds, I suggested she make flashcards for studying the various names and naming rules. We also talked through generally writing up lab reports because that is something she wants to do better on. Starting with our next session, I will be going over her lab reports with her to try and help her write better reports. Overall the session went well and I think she will do well in her class."
"We covered dimensional analysis, density problems and significant figures. She is a wonderful student. She and I went over many practice problems."
