Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued our review of the digestive system. We worked on labeling the tooth and the digestive system organs as well as accessory organs. We then proceeded to review notecards that she had created, discussed answers she had missed, and reviewed those concepts again."
"We searched for Spanish songs that would work for the student's upcoming Spanish project. He and his group need to memorize a song and perform for the class, so I provided different options for songs that had clear pronunciation and weren't too complex in grammar and vocabulary. We then reviewed Spanish articles, the feminine article vs masculine article, as well as singular vs plural. We then reviewed vocabulary of months, days of the week, dates, and general numbers/ counting. He did well with recalling vocabulary and numbers."
"We worked strongly on pronunciation and completed the material in Unit 1 Lesson 1. The student was strong with understanding what the words meant and how to conjugate given a bit of time to think through it, but needed help with correct pronunciation. I recommended that she read out loud when she is working through her homework problems so she can start to hear what the Spanish would sound like. Eventually she'll read it in Spanish with the correct accent even if she is silently reading. This was the first session, so we will continue to work on more assignment-based tutoring moving forward, but with an ongoing emphasis on audible reading, pronunciation, and becoming comfortable with the accents."
"We worked in the "ser" and "estar" verbs. We covered the difference, uses, conjugation and did exercises. The student had doubts with the uses and conjugation but after a few exercises he was more confident and his responses were accurate. We worked on a strategy when answering open ended questions: using the vocabulary studied, using the words in the quiz page, and using the words in the question to give complete answers. He did well in the last quiz we reviewed for. He had a good attitude and worked hard."
"I worked with the student on properly implementing forms of ar, er and ir verbs. He completed two previous quizzes he had previously struggled with and felt much more comfortable when working on them this time around. I provided a graphic organizer that structured how to analyze the verb form and match it to the right context. We also studied for the district science assessment through Jeopardy and a study guide. He seemed very enthusiastic, comfortable and engaged throughout!"
"We covered some of the old vocabulary list and the new list which included words around the house. I showed the student how to make color coded flashcards which makes the words easier to remember. Then we played memory match to learn the new words. The student was receptive to my ideas and seemed to enjoy the game. She learned most of her new words by the end of the session. We also worked a little on pronunciation and how some letters sound different in Spanish."
