Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was a good session. The student's been practicing on his own for 20 mins - 30 mins per day. His Chinese actually improved. He is going to China again in June. So we practiced his speech that he is going to give in China next month. We also went over some translations. He sent me a file to edit later."
"In this session, we changed our routine work a little bit. Besides reviewing, we emphasized the question and answer conversation. In today's class, I helped the student start to make full sentences with the vocabulary we learned before. We also had conversation about our personal experiences. The student was interested in that I told my story in Mandarin, because that's easier for him to learn the new things. So I tried to tell my experiences in both Mandarin and English. The student was learning well, except he was challenged with a word in Mandarin, but that's not a big problem. A big progress from this session is that the student was able to tell his experiences in Mandarin, and got to know some new terms now. At the end, I reminded him to review."
"Today, the student and I went over the 4 tones for the sound- ma, and he did an excellent job of answering the correct tone for each. He took the tone activity a step further by listening to a tongue twister and learning how to follow along with the teacher. He replicated the tones very well and then he identified the horse radical in many of the characters. This is a great skill to help aid with reading comprehension. He also did well unscrambling a part of the tongue twister when looking at its syntax. I encouraged him to record the tongue twister for practice and we will listen to it for the next class. He reviewed family members with a match game and then answered questions in complete sentences while reviewing how to use pronouns."
