"The student and I worked on sounding out middle syllables. He has made progress on understanding and enunciating the syllables in the middle of words."
"This was our first session focusing on the student's reading. We started with Shel Silverstein's "Shelebration,"ù discussing various types of poems and creating poems using the models in the text."
"CVCe matching game. 2 rounds of go fish with CVC and CVCe word matches. New sight word list 11/20 words. Sight words end of session 14/20. Student passage- 1 minute. Spelling words (CVC, CVCe and simple sight words) 7/8 missed "hit." Kit and Rex passage 1 minute 29 seconds. Fox and Frog passage 1 minute 33 seconds."
"The student made his characters like he was supposed to! We worked to finish Chapter 1 of his story, which involved dialogue, a little bit of action, and some weird humor. His homework is to write Chapter 2 of his story using the same 4-part pattern we established in chapter 1. I think what I will do in the future is, if he has some large issues with his chapter, we won't re-write it, but rather apply those lessons to the NEXT chapter! Which will work well since this story can pretty much go on as long as we want."
"We began today's session by finishing one last passage and set of nine questions from the state practice test. This was a nonfiction passage with a substantial amount of inferencing required in the questions. Overall, she did a great job with the passage. Next, we practiced cause-and-effect. I had a new worksheet that provided the student with six causes and asked her to complete each sentence with an effect. She seemed to have great success with the cause-and-effect concept. Next, we returned to Because of Winn-Dixie and she read two more chapters. We used the thinking chart and character map to record notes after she read."
"We worked more on reading today and phonetics. We went over the alphabet and identified vowels. She does really well with two and three letter words. We also finished two pages from her teacher packet and went over a recent exam."
