Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent most of our time working logarithm problems and inverse functions. Practicing multiple problems involving the log laws was prudent for the student to gain a greater comfort with the subject."
"The student was working really well today- we got through all of his homework, he did it pretty quickly, etc. The student did the first half of an English section and we went through it. He only made 6 mistakes, and 4 of those were right at the beginning, which tells me A. he is doing pretty well already and B. he was learning even while taking the test, which is great."
"We worked on reviews for both trig and chemistry with the bulk of the time spent on chemistry for exams for each on 2/21. He did well with the chemistry."
"We picked off on our review of chemistry from the day before. The student had a study guide that we followed and compiled. A majority of it was definition of concepts so we spent most of our time breaking down each concept and how they might be applied. Concepts such as gases, percent yield, the mole, and stoichiometry were covered. At the end, we devoted a little bit of time to doing some practice problems that relied on the concepts that we reviewed during the session."
"We worked through several position, velocity, and acceleration problems in preparation for her physics exam tomorrow. In addition, we discussed the intuition behind each function to speed up the problem solving process."
"The student and I went over his first quarter grades, he did quite well. We also went over his spelling test for Friday, and studied some math."
"The student and I worked on a 2/3 page essay about a short descriptive narrative that was due the following day. The student had already prepared the outline as well as had an introduction and first body paragraph. We began by tailoring her thesis to answer more effectively the teachers question. We reviewed rhetorical strategies and which ones the author used to convey her stories. We then went through the essay and selected the appropriate quotations. "
"Today, the student and I worked on her spelling words and on her Saxon grammar. We also started looking about liquid measurements (pints, cups, etc.) and will continue on Tuesday. The other student was really focused and typed up all of his composer facts. Tomorrow we will input his sources and continue working on the music half of the project."
"The student just had a geometry test, so her current topic now is quadrilaterals. We talked about the different shapes and their properties. She had a huge homework assignment and she got halfway through but thankfully it's not due until Thursday."
"Today, we worked on useful dialogues that may occur on the airplane. We also review the numbers we learned in the last session. I also went through the days of a week and the months of a year in Mandarin."
"The student and I did another math section today. She seemed much more comfortable with this section, and was able to solve most of the problems. We then did half of a reading section. We went over strategies such as underlining/ summarizing paragraphs, looking for exact answers from the passage, pacing, and staying away from extremes/ambivalence on tone questions. Tomorrow we will continue to work on the reading section."
"We went over her accounting project that was basically a 3 statement model. I covered with her each of the transactions and how it flows through the 3 statements. She went from not really understanding the concepts to getting them by the end of our session, and she was able to work to perfection afterwards. Overall, a good student."
