Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we went over area and perimeter of polygons. Student seemed to grasp the concept of subtracting a part from the whole to find the missing piece. I continue to give him homework problems so he can continue to familiarize himself with problems."
"Student and I went over the review for his test. It covers chapter two on functions, transformation of graphs, composite functions, odd/even functions. He is solid with his math skills and has the foundation necessary to be successful in math. We both feel very good about his test on Wednesday."
"Reviewed perimeter of a trapezoid with a one sided curve whose length is approximated as the integral/sum of all the tangential lines at each point. Student had good attitude."
"Tonight the student and I covered a few different topics in preparation for his quiz tomorrow. We looked at derivatives of the exponential function, as well as derivatives of natural log, and the rules for approaching them. We also looked at growth and decay problems involving half-life, atmospheric pressure, and rates of change. I left him the task of focusing on these last few topics the most, and keeping the derivative rules in mind. Good luck!"
"We had a very good start to the student's sessions. She really needed some background info on derivatives so I think that taking time to explain it to her was a big help. We worked on partial differentiation from some of her practice problems and she struggled a bit at first, but in the end was able to follow along more smoothly. Our next session will focus on more practice problems so that she can get accustomed to the methods and rules."
"The student and I reviewed a lot of material for her upcoming test, including a lot of trigonometric identities, unit circle, derivatives of trigonometric functions, as well as product rule and quotient rule for derivatives. She was struggling with applying the correct trigonometric identity to the problem, as well as struggling to remember the unit circle. Once I walked through the way to solve a particular type of problem, she was able to pick it up and continue with it successfully. The next step is practicing with using the unit circle continuously, as well as applying the correct trigonometric identity needed to solve and simplify each problem."
