Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered the present tense conjugation of verbs with different endings. She expressed that she had covered the present tense only briefly in her class and I suggested that she review that section more during her own time. We then moved on to the preterite and imperfect part of her homework. She seemed to improve in this section since the last time we worked on it. I also helped her with any vocabulary questions she had during the entire session. She also mentioned that she received an A- on her Spanish midterm, and so it seems that she is progressing just fine!"
"The student has been working very hard between sessions. He is remembering more and more concepts and brings a lot of work he has done. Today we focused on pronouns and agreement in number and gender of nouns and articles. He is getting ready to take his midterm soon."
"We covered adjectives, nouns, and verbs to describe simple actions and characters in different scenes depicted in the homework assignment. We went over comparisons of inequality 'mas o menos que' as well as equality 'tan o tanto que'. The homework is to watch an episode of the assigned sitcom."
"The student didn't have any of his tests or quizzes that his Teacher has graded, but I got an update on his grades from his mom. Next weekend I'm going to bring in some ideas for him to practice, but today I decided to focus on the memorization aspect. We spent the session making flashcards of vocabulary (and also certain conjugations). We'll continue with the flashcards next weekend."
"The student is currently studying vocabulary related to after school activities and the verbs "saber" and "conocer." She wanted to preview some activities she anticipates for this week so we went over a couple of activities that involved using the context of the writing to determine the appropriate vocabulary word. Her teacher assigns a packet in addition to random practice throughout the week. She looked through the packet and chose one assignment she felt she needed guidance with and she completed it during our session. I gave her a suggestion for approaching similar assignments or also when a similar structure is used on a quiz or test."
"We did the spelling practices together. The student has only a few problems identifying the initials and finals, but needs more practices on identifying the tones. I asked her to listen to the audio again and draw the tones for each character. For the same set of words, I also asked her to do a character practice, to identify the differences between Traditional and Simplified characters, to identify the radicals we have learned, and to write down the Pinyin for each character (so that she may link the sound and the character together)."
