Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I looked at his note taking skills and worked on his being able to understand the notes he is taking. Vocabulary has to be done in a way that he is comfortable learning while being able to locate the words easily. I had to show him the proper way to take the notes so he could understand the lesson. He will be a good student to work with as he is a very active listener."
"The student began our session by editing and rewriting a paper for her English class on The Baron of Grogzwig. She edited her quotes down and reworked some of her word choices. Based on the comments by her teacher, the content of the paper was fine, it was just the presentation that needed work. She will be turning in the rewrite at her next class. We then spent the bulk of the session reviewing for her upcoming test in Human Geography on culture. She had a couple of study guides that we used as the basis of our discussion and review. She had completed several of the questions, so we worked to make her answers better/more thorough. We spent a lot of time discussing religions and their basic beliefs. She has already developed a study plan for the week (the test is on Friday)."
"The student and I reviewed chapters 1, 2, and 3 in his textbook in preparation for his final on Thursday. We made sure to review all the vocabulary and discussed the key issues presented in each chapter. I asked him to review a couple short sections in his textbook to prepare for his final. We will review chapters 4 through 6 on Wednesday."
"We focused on a different history class centered on Ancient Greece. I read over his test questions and his written responses, checking for coherency, grammar and spelling. The student said he will complete his paper for the historical methodologies course on his own."
"The student and I went through 46 questions of the assessment US History prep exam; test-taking strategies. We also went through a free writing exercise selected for our next session."
"Today, the student and I continued our review of 19th and 20th century history by working through multiple choice questions on a practice AP Exam. We specifically reviewed aspects of U.S. interventionism abroad and the varying degrees of governmental involvement in domestic affairs. Her ability to compare and contrast different time periods and themes is definitely improving as we continue to review more content."
